About Chalet Eveleen…

A little over ten years ago Chalet Eveleen was built with reclaimed materials providing old world charm on the outside and super efficient new world comfort on the inside. We are situated in the Vallée de la Manche, Morzine, in a quiet area but close to the Nyon telecabine. Bus route ‘E’  (Le Cret/Le Provion) stops just 70 meters from the front door for going into town or to the nearby Nyon lift in one direction or further up the valley for hiking, skiing and some excellent restaurants in the other. There is ample parking for several cars outside and a garage in which to keep bikes, sledges and skis.

Set over three floors the accommodation comprises five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Enter through a spacious hallway with plenty of room for hanging coats and storing shoes and boots and a handy bench seat. You’ll find the entrance to the garage on your left (also accessible from the generous outside parking space) with bike and ski racks and a ski boot warmer. Also on this floor is the cinema room with a squashy sofa, beanbags and floor cushions, Bose sound bar, 65 inch TV with French and English channels and a range of books and dvds. There is a shower room and WC on this floor plus a laundry room and a cosy nook under the stairs for reading or investigating the basket of board games and puzzles.

Upstairs on the first floor is an open plan living and dining area. Relax on the large L shaped sofa with a good book, or in a cosy arm chair with your feet up in front of the open fire, there is a Bose WiFi and blue tooth speaker and large dining table with comfy dining chairs for settling in over a fondue and a bottle or two. Doors on two sides open out onto the sunny terrace and garden where, in summer, the BBQ and outside dining area await. Also on this floor is the compact but well equipped kitchen. If you’re a coffee lover you’ll find a Nespresso machine and milk frother and if baking is your thing all the equipment you need and a kitchen aid mixer.
Also on this floor is a WC and double bedroom with its own en-suite shower room.

Head up the traditional wooden stairs and find four more bedrooms, a king size bedroom with en-suite bathroom, another king size bedroom and two twin rooms, plus a family bathroom. There is access from three of the bedrooms directly out onto the balcony and of course mountain views from every window.

About Morzine…

Unlike many ski resorts Morzine is a thriving village all year round. The surrounding area is dotted with smaller villages and when the snow disappears in the spring green pastures full of wild flowers and local Abondance cows complete with tinkling cow bells appear. The pistes are replaced by mountain biking and hiking trails and the mountain eateries reopen for summer visitors. Morzine itself brims with charming independent shops, a weekly market, vibrant bars and restaurants and excellent supermarkets as well as all the facilities you would expect in a lively small town such as a doctors surgery, pharmacy and a friendly vet for four legged visitors.

Since 1934 when the Pleney lift opened visitors have been enjoying the mountains around Morzine. Fast forward to today and Morzine lies within one of the biggest ski areas in the Alps. A dozen resorts in two countries make up the Porte du Soleil area, from Morzine you have direct access to two huge areas. The Pleney lift now links Pleney, Nyon and Les Gets on one side and The Super Morzine on the other side of the valley takes you to Avoriaz rising to 2466m, Switzerland and Chatel. ‘Le Petit Train’ shuttle service on the valley floor links the two gondolas. There is truly something for everybody, gentle novice slopes and family friendly tree lined intermediate runs all the way up to the World Cup descent from Avoriaz to Morzine, the Aigle Rouge on the Pointe de Nyon notorious for its moguls and Le Pas de Chavanette the ‘Swiss Wall,’ one of the trickiest black runs in the Alps. The sign at the tops says ‘experts only’ for a reason!

Cross country skiers will not be disappointed with 95 km of trails in the Porte du Soleil area and snowshoers and sledge riders of all ages will love the gentle trails right outside the Chalet. The first giant ecological snowpark in Europe ‘The Stash’ in nearby Avoriaz, is a magnate for Freestyle and backcountry skiers and boarders.

There are plenty of nursery slopes and world class English speaking ski schools in both Morzine and Avoriaz, long established ESF have English speaking instructors and there is a British ski school in Morzine too. On a sunny day with very young children why not drive 4 minutes up the valley (Alternatively hop on the ski bus or walk along the trail beside the river) to L’Erigne for almost flat beginners skiing on pisted cross country trails, lots of space for sledging, dog walking and incredible hot chocolate in the Auberge Les Terres Maudites Layanne. Take the same route in the summer up to the Lac Mines D’Or for amazing views and another great restaurant.

Hiking possibilities abound all around Morzine in the summer months from gentle strolls to serious not-for-the-feint-hearted adventures into the wilderness staying at mountain refuges as you go. Enjoy the wild flower meadows, abundant butterflies and look out for Golden Eagles, Chamoix goats and Marmots. Why not start with the point de Nyon right opposite Chalet Eveleen? from the Nyon car park ascend on foot or drive up to the plateau de Nyon and head on up to the peak past grazing Abondance cows. From the summit look down on Morzine and spot Mont Blanc in one direction and Lake Geneva in the other. Or try the family friendly fox trail along the river Dranse just down the road, view the Cascade de Nyon waterfall (a favourite canyoning spot) and take in the foxy facts along the route. You can even fly across the waterfall on a zip wire at Cascade Adventure and try out their parcours circuits for all abilities.

Nearby Lake Montriond is just stunning year round. Walk or run the 3km circular trail, hire a paddle board or kayak, brave a swim in the snow melt waters at the start of the summer or wait until the later summer months for fantastic mountain framed open water swimming. There are public BBQ’s and picnic benches at the far end for that mountain sunset moment. A twenty minute walk away in the direction of Ardent is another hear-it-before-you-see-it waterfall, the Cascade D’Ardent a little bridge over the top allows you to look right down into the plunging water.

White water rafting and rock climbing are close by too.

Morzine has been awarded Famille Plus status for its excellent childcare and entertainment, so year round it’s a brilliant choice for families. There is so much on offer for all ages and abilities, from first lessons to free riding, picnics to paragliding, mooching around the shops to extreme mountain biking. If you are travelling from the UK it is quite simply one of the easiest resorts to drive to and very easy from Geneva airport by hire car or shuttle.
